Guillaume Apollinaire

France (b. Rome), 1880–1918. A poet and critic, one of the essential voices of the European avant-garde; he invented the calligramme and coined the word 'surrealism'. Wounded in the Great War, he died of Spanish flu at thirty-eight. 'Le Pont Mirabeau' is his best-loved poem. His work is in the public domain.
