Hendrik Marsman

Netherlands, 1899–1940. Poet, translator and critic, a leading voice of Dutch vitalism and expressionism and of the 'generation of 1925'. He died at forty when the ship carrying him to England was torpedoed in the Bay of Biscay. 'Herinnering aan Holland' was voted the Dutch poem of the century in 2000. His work is in the public domain.
