Love Has No Foes

Florence Earle Coates (1850–1927)

Poems β€” Volume II

LOVE has no foes; where'er he goesConditions full of mildness meet,And amber honey-cells are filled,And little birds begin to build,And blossoms gather at his feet,β€”Love is so sweet!

Love has no foes; the folded roseThat answering his smile's caressBlows into beauty,β€”with its heartAll bruised to fragrance by his art,To every breeze doth still confessHis loveliness!

Love has no foes: who only knowsWhat Love hath been when Love is fled,β€”E'en he, bereft, would follow himUnto the voiceless caverns dimOf the wan city of the Dead,And share his bed!
